SHANK OUT
The bolt shank that remains after the nut is tightened with the bolt and connecting members is referred to as 'bolt shank out.' This occurs only in X-type bolts, where additional washers are used.

STICK OUT
It refers to how much the bolt protrudes past the outer surface of the nut. A positive or zero extension is acceptable. However, a negative extension, where the bolt's end is within the nut, is not acceptable.
