A lintel is a horizontal beam placed over an opening in a wall. Its primary function is to support the load from the wall above and distribute it evenly to the vertical supports on either side of the opening. This prevents the wall from sagging or cracking around the opening.

Lintels can be made from various materials, including:
Concrete: Common in modern construction for its strength and durability.
Steel: Used where higher load capacity is needed or for longer spans.
Wood: Traditional material, still used in some residential buildings.
Stone: Found in older or heritage buildings, often carved or shaped.
Each material has its own advantages depending on the building design, load requirements, and aesthetic preferences.
